Sheila Bauzon Hypercolor Style

Here is my hypercolor series with model and actress Sheila Bauzon (@sheilabauzon). My objective here was to create a truly metallic skin look to this low-key series using colored gels I call a “hypercolor” effect. This is also my favorite color combination thus far, with a teal green colored gel placed on the key-light, and orange colored gels on the rim lights. For my backdrop, these two colored gels match perfectly with the Teal seamless paper color from Savage Universal.

In each past hypercolor series I have shot, I typically shot them with only a two-light setup using Einstein e640s from Paul C. Buff, Inc. However, this time I wanted even more drama in the rim lighting, and went with the three light Einstein e640 setup.

For this hypercolor series, I wanted to use that extra rim light to create an even more metallic-like finish to the model’s skin, so that there’s a smooth transition from teal to orange in the highlights. Sheila’s poses and emotion captured in this set, really elevate the entire series, as she brings life and expression to these shots, even exceeding my expectations. These images are then brought into Photoshop where lots of post-processing is involved such as color level adjustments, curve adjustments, and frequency separation. This results in some final images that are a cohesive artistic and vibrant hypercolor series. I couldn’t be happier with the results.
