Indulge me for a Throwback Thursday photo of sorts, even though I have never posted this entire series here before. Here’s a series I took just over a year ago with the supremely talented Meg Vega. This was my first ever shoot using my DIY ringlight that I made out of $40 in parts, and I remember suggesting to Meg, “Hey, wanna try out this ringlight I just made?” and she said sure. This was shot in my apartment in front of an off-white wall with a 50mm f/1.8 lens that cost around $200 bucks. That’s it!
This series is important to me not just because I love the results, but it reinforces the fact that it doesn’t take a fancy studio or expensive gear to create some really engaging shots. This is still one of my favorite ringlight shots ever, and everything just worked. Meg’s styling here really embodies and timeless beauty a la Marilyn Monroe, and the pearls compliment this vintage Hollywood glam look so perfectly.
